The Map tool uses the Google Maps service to get maps. The Google Maps service uses the Web Mercator projection (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Mercator).

This map projection cannot be directly used to measure the distance between two points (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection_Uses). The distance can be measured correctly only on the equator line for the Mercator projection.
